Sorry if asked before, but i searched and typing in "m box flash" yields way too much.

Looking for a list of other ecus that i can flash to become an M box ecu, needs to support ESP.

Also once a tip ecu is flashed with a 6 speed file it will become 6 speed?

i found that all s4 2.7t can be flashed, but can a6, allroad also be used?

I have used A6 2.7T ECUs with the S4 2.7T MBox without issue. I am under the impression that any 2.7T ECU will work with the MBox flash.

If you flash over A6/Allroad ECU, it will also "remove" the immobilizer functionality these ECUs provide since immo function is a part of ECU code, not a hardware function.

As to your question about MT/auto, once you flash the ECU you can then re-code it with VAG-COM if you care. If I remember right, the M-Box didn't care for the manual/auto coding since it is a dedicated manual binary.

My allroad runs A6 auto ECU flashed with S4 M-Box so if you have any further question about mixing parts and software, I can certainly help you there.

So... if i flash a A box file to a J box, it should become to an A box ECU?? if i use ME7 to read the ECU, it will show A box or J box in the description?

I want to ghetto hack my 2002 Allroad manual instrument cluster, but want to use an 'ebay' used cluster as a guinea pig. Since I have/had Inno3, this was virtually not possible (need IMMO from BOTH clusters).

My ECU was flashed from
originally: 4Z7 907 551 L (still looking to get my original file back)
to now: 8D0 907 551 M

Does that mean
a) my Immo is gone? (good and bad)
b) I can install a used cluster WITHOUT the need for BOTH immo codes?

Just to be clear: I can flash 'manual' files into 'auto' cars (with potentially having to recode the trans module with VAGcom)?

For example stage 1 or 2 (S4 manual or auto, for example L ) file into Allroad auto ECU (for example 4Z7 907 551 M or S)

Correct.

What our ECUs are is essentially a dedicated generic Me 7.1 computer (with 512MB or 1024MB of ROM) in a metal box with an installed operating system version identifiable by ECU part # and therefore compatible with a specific car setup (like manual/auto or bosch maf vs hitachi maf). Hardware wise they are identical boxes.

There might be slight changes inside but they don't affect how the software runs so any 1024MB binary can be flashed onto 1024MB box. 512 onto 512 and possible 512 onto 1024 but not sure about that.

And yes, you can flash S4 file onto allroad box so long it is ME 7.1 not ME 7.1.1 with a catch: allroad has immobilizer which disallows flashing of ECU outside of the car it is paired to, or rather it won't allow flashing if it cannot talk to the cluster which shares the same immo ID. The workaround is to use boot mode with Galletto (and soon Nefmoto). Once you flash S4 file onto that box in boot mode, the immobilizer functionality disappears since it is a part of the software you just wiped out and the ECU can be used in any car with any cluster.

Background: I want to get a spare cluster (say Ebay) and physically hack it (replace Volt gauge with both gauge).

If my ECU is "S4 flashed" and no Immo anymore in the cluster, I should be able to use another car's cluster (right?).

How can I check/find out of if Immo is gone now?

It is eradicated since S4 just doesn't have code to check for immo match.

To check it though you'd have to either make a copy of your key at your locksmith and start car with that. You will get flashing key on your dashboard but the car will otherwise run just fine.

I believe that there was also a plastic key that came with our cars to be used to open door etc but had no immo either.

You can also disassemble your key and take out the blade and use it to start the car. Again, flashing key icon but car will run.

This is how i get around the imobo on allroad 7.1.1 ecus....2003/2004 R and S box.
I dump the eeprom, and replace it with one from a 7.1 early one that has no imobo init 2000 A6.
Then u can flash anything you want over the flash.
After thats done, u just flash back the eeprom to the ecu.
All this is done on the bench with eeprom test clip and nefmoto for the flash.

You could also just change the code in the eeprom to disable the imobo and it should flash....

This is all from my observations, testing...

I put a used ebay cluster into my car (2002 AR manual, but flashed with S4 manual tune).
Car starts and runs, but 'key' light blinks.
Any way to disable the key blinking? Do I need to remove the bulb?

since this thread was already bumped, what about the ECU from the B5 A4 V6? the part numbers are similar:

4D0907551AH (and others)

Or the B5 Passat V6:

3B0907551BR (and others)

There are a million of these available and they are cheap (< $50), but is it a standard Motronic ME7.1 with 1024K ROM? If no one knows for sure either way I'll be the guinea pig, good way for me to get started. I'm just trying to find an ECU to play around with and everyone wants $200+ for stock S4 ECUs...
