Hi everyone – I have spent hours reading through all the pages of this forum; it is very intriguing information and a lot more than I had bargained for to simply create a duplicate key! I had a question regarding retrieving the SKC code from an 04 Beetle. Looking through ddillenger posts, I was able to find a similar situation by reading the eeprom from an A4 ( http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=3057.0). I’m pretty sure I am understanding this correctly; that the SKC is embedded into line 0x32 and 0x33. Question is, using Vag Commander 3.6, I would read the eeprom from the cluster, correct? Locating the embedded SKC for my 04 Beetle would be the same as the A4, correct? I apologize for my dumb questions…I have plenty of others, but will save them for another topic! ☺ Cheers!

How about this...I have a KKL VAG-COM 409.1 cable on the way. Couldn't I just run the vag-tacho off that cable and read the SKC, and while I am it, program the keys, as well? Sounds too simple, but please correct me if I am missing something. I am going off information found in this thread: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=2963.15Thank you!

What engine is in there? Maybe its easier to read the eprom from your ecu. Thats the same SKC i guess.

I have the 2.0 (BGD) engine. It is a 2004 Beetle. Cheers!

I have vauge memories of someone having real issues with a Beetle, as it ran a different immo chip and none of the usual tools work for it, be worth doing a search.

Thanks...I am pretty sure the usual tools work for this one. It is megamos 48 chip, if I remember correctly (going off memory). Would my idea of using the KKL VAG-COM 409.1 cable with vag-tacho work at all? Cheers!

What would be the most efficient and best tool to utilize for this? Thank you for putting up with all my questions...dont' want to mess anything up along the way!

argdub's tool is used for me7.1/7.5, but as above, Im not sure if this works with beetles.
K0mpressed - am I right in thinking that this will not work for a beetle?

its just me7. probably 7.1.1 though. i most definitely would not be doing anything with a clone VT on that MM cluster.
