Anyone using the arduino Ft232rl board? I am sick of buying cables and have them fail.

@slappynuts, I had the same, and after contacting the seller I tried to repair it with another usb cord. It did not work, but then the seller paid for return shipping and send me a new cable free of charge. He would then examine the cable himself too to find out the problem. My new cable works perfect again  Smiley

A quick look and a little solder action and this one is back in action. This FTDI chip does look like the real deal (laser etched).

From what i can tell its been more than a month since anyone has given notice as to which is a good cable to buy so i thought i would ask if anyone has bought a working cable that they would recommend/share a link or somethin. From reading the thread I hope all the bad cables are a thing of the past but i doubt it.
So far this is what i know from reading the entire thread and i hope this helps put it all together in a nutshell for others just starting out like me

looking for a
FTDI FT232R or FT232RL (L = Lead Free) chip KKL 409.1 OBD2 / ISO 9141 USB Cable

-What to Avoid

FT232B or FT232BL these dont have a reprogram-able chip that is needed by various software that identifies the cable and is also needed by Nefmoto for premium features to work
CH340 Chipset =  bad, cant remember why just now but you dont want this

-What to look for
FT232R or FT232RL Must be a genuine FTDI chip or it will die with updated drivers also the R variant is reprogram-able which is needed for some software and Nefmoto for premium features
LM339 chip-set = good, this is the one to get

Well so far thats what i have i cut out alot of the why's and tried to keep it simple
would appreciate it if anyone has bought a working cable recently if they could post a link, I finally have some time and money to get working on this car of mine and want to get started right away

You could have better spent that time buying a cable that suits your needs and start tuning Grin If you have doubts, look for sellers previously mentioned and write them your q's Roll Eyes

You could read the thread that isn't 5 years old, "CABLES THAT YOU, THE MEMBERS HAVE CONFIRMED WORKING".

or this

I got KKL cable off ebay and driver installed is CH340. Nefmoto doesn't show it under interfaces. Is it any good or I should consider it as a donation to Chinese economy?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but BMW K+DCAN cables usually have the FT232RL chip, as I don't think the CH340 works with the BMW INPA software. I've used one on a Subaru for SSM K line, and it worked fine for logging. They do tend to sell for a tad more than the knock off KKL cables though.

I have BMW diagnostic cable and it works for reading and writing tunes. The sad part is that I cannot do any logging with this cable.
